Thackley AFC are delighted to confirm its Management Team for the forthcoming 2024/2025 season.
Danny Forrest will be sole Manager of the Dennyboys for the forthcoming season, and will be assisted by Assistant Manager, Matty Dempsey, and Goalkeeping Coach, Ben Higginson, both of whom will continue in their current roles. Dempsey will also continue as a player for the upcoming season and Forrest will also be making further additions to his coaching team in due course.
Tom Greaves who has been Joint Manager of Thackley AFC since being appointed with Forrest on 12 January 2023, will be stepping down from his role after informing the Club at the end of the season that he wished to focus on playing once more rather than the challenging role of a Player / Manager. The Club respected Greaves' desire to relinquish his management duties and were happy to support him with his decision.
After Greaves confirmed his decision to step down from the Joint Management position, the Club and Greaves discussed the possibility of Greaves remaining as a player only for Thackley AFC for the upcoming season. Unfortunately, despite the Club making an offer to Greaves, an agreement could not be reached which was acceptable to all parties and therefore Thackley AFC can confirm that Greaves will depart the Club.
Chairman Ben Oliver had the following to say:
"We are delighted that Danny Forrest will once again lead Thackley AFC in the upcoming season with the current backroom staff in place. Last season, the Club had its highest league finish since 2016/2017, had another near 20% growth on the average home attendance which was the 8th highest in the league and a real buzz about the place. It was important that we keep this momentum, and the Board and Committee have every confidence in Danny and his team for the future.
We are of course sad that Tom Greaves will be leaving the Club. Tom kept us fully updated towards the end of the season that he may wish to stand down as Joint Manager and we fully respect his reasons for that. We had hoped that Tom could stay on as a player for us, but sadly we could not reach a middle ground that worked for all parties. Tom has been a fantastic addition as a player, manager and person at the Club and is always welcome back to Dennyfield. We know we will have close ties with Tom and his business, Fisical Sports, in the future. Tom stepped up in December 2022 when the Club made a change to its Management Team and has been a big part of the stabilisation and success which has followed."
Manager Danny Forrest had the following to say:
"I am extremely proud of the progress we made as a Club during last season and feel we are in a solid position to build again. Naturally at this time of year there can be change and we are no different, although continuity is what we are looking for and I am delighted to say that barring a couple we have got the majority of last season's squad committed for the 2024/2025 season.
What we have built is something strong and we have brought good people to the Club in the last 18 months or so. None more so than Matty Dempsey and Ben Higginson who will be assisting me on the Management side. They have both been fantastic since coming in and have been a big part in raising the bar.
We are also looking at growing that team of staff slightly and we will introduce new faces in due course.
As part of the changes we also say thank you and goodbye to Tom who has been great for the Club. He is a friend and will be missed. We are all grateful for his efforts over the last few years and we wish him all the best in whatever path he chooses next.
As a Club there is so much to be positive about and the hard work continues day in and day out to keep pushing us forward. There is certainly an air of optimism around the place and we will be doing everything in our power to maintain and drive standards across the board."
Tom Greaves also had the following to say:
"I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone at Thackley AFC. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Club and I have met some special people over the last two seasons. The players, the staff, the committee and fans are all amazing and make this Club what it is.
I am sure nothing but positive things will come for Thackley AFC in the future and it will be nothing less than it deserves with the Club as a whole going in the right direction.
The Club is in great hands with Danny and his team and I wish everyone at the Club all the very best for next season and beyond! Lots of friends and memories made and that is what non-league football is all about."
