Thackley AFC are delighted to announce that Matty Dempsey has signed for Thackley AFC for the upcoming 2023/2024 season.
Centre back Dempsey, whose previous clubs include Hyde United, FC United of Manchester, Scarborough and Bradford (Park Avenue) played a handful of games for Thackley AFC at the end of last season, but we are delighted to confirm he has committed for the upcoming campaign.
The powerful centre back will also join part of the Thackley AFC Coaching Staff as a Player / Assistant Manager. A further announcement on the makeup of the full backroom team for Thackley AFC this season will be made shortly. Dempsey has been training with Thackley AFC during pre-season and is available for selection for tomorrow's first pre-season friendly against Bury FC.
Joint Manager Danny Forrest had the following to say:
"Securing Matty is a hugely important piece of the jigsaw for us. Primarily for his ability to affect things on the pitch, he's a fantastic all round player and his pedigree speaks for itself. He's a leader, he demands standards and helps to get the best out of others.
Throughout the discussions during the off season, it became more and more apparent that Demps had the desire, as well as the skills and experience to influence things on a deeper level. So Tom and I were delighted he accepted a role on the staff as Player-Assistant Manager.
He's already been a huge asset on the training ground, being a role model to the younger players, helping to manage the group and drive standards whilst also naturally becoming a mentor to numerous individuals.
Tom and I have known Matty for years, and on a personal level he's someone I've wanted to work with for a long time. The timing is now right, and I'm delighted this opportunity has presented itself."
Dempsey also had the following to say:
"I have known and played with Danny and Tom for over 16 years. It is a privilege to be asked to help these boys out both on and off the pitch. I will do everything in my power to get this team to the places where I believe they can be and achieve what we want to."
Welcome to the Club, Demps!
