As a long standing Community Club with our roots firmly established in the locality we are proud to be launching a Thackley AFC Ladies team for the first time this season. Michelle Woollias, who is the manager, is the inspiration behind the team. After forming a number of girl’s teams for Thackley Juniors, she wanted an open age team so that they could progress once they had finished with junior football.
Thackley Ladies will be playing their football in the Third Division of the West Riding County Womens League. There are nine teams in the division, namely Amaranth, Durkar Devils, Ilkley Town, Kirkstall Crusaders, New Farnley, Ossett Town Reserves, Phoenix, Thackley and Tyersal. The League season starts in early September and Thackley will be playing their matches on Sunday afternoons at the Mitton Group Stadium at Dennyfield. The normal kick off time will be 2.00pm.
The League fixtures are not available at present but these will be posted on the website as soon as they are known. However, the League Cup draw has been made and The Dennygirls will be playing away at Premier Division side Wetherby Athletic in the First Round on Sunday 1st October.
Thackley have already played two friendly games in preparation for the start of the season. In their first ever game, which was played at Dennyfield, they were beaten by Silsden Ladies 3-1, Anna Mitchell scoring the first ever Thackley goal. They fared much better in their second warm up match, beating Castleford White Rose Ladies 3-1, with Megan Butterworth getting two of the goals, Vanessa Holroyd the other. This was a very good result considering Castleford play in the Premier Division of the North East Regional Womens League.
Further friendly matches have been arranged for the next two Sundays, both are away from home. On Sunday 20th August they play Tingley Ladies, the following week Tyersal Ladies.
