Thackley took the field, well not a field really, lets us call it a pitch, for it was the artificial variety, for the first time this season in this friendly against North West Counties side Barnoldswick Town. The Dennyboys were playing a mixture of potential first teamers, trialists and a number from the Under 17's team. Barnoldswick looked the more experienced of the two sides. It was a baking hot day and the hot weather was likely to test the stamina of both teams.

Barnoldswick took a first half lead when Danny Boyle got the better of stand in centre half Matt Morgan, keeper Stuart Morrison got a hand on his well struck shot but could not stop it entering the net. It was the same player that put Barnoldswick two up just over ten minutes into the second half after some poor defending. Thackley pulled a goal back in the seventy seventh minute when NICKY MATTHEWS stroked the ball home.
