The first match was to be against Craven League side Settle United, now managed by ex Thackley player Shaun Airey. The squad for this match was made up of mainly first team players, also included was trialist Vincent Dhesi, a forward recently released by York City. The second match was to be played against a side from Bentham, and included quite a number of the first team squad players.

Settle proved Thackley's equal in the opening minutes and it was not until the Dennyboys took the lead half way through the first period, did they start to get on top. The goal came from new boy VINCENT DHESI, slotting the ball into the net from a right wing cross. Ten minutes later LEWIS MORGAN's shot got away from the home keeper and the Dennyboys were two in front. Thackley created other chances but, whilst the Dennyboys were on top, Settle were playing some good football and were never out of the game.

Five minutes into the SECOND HALF, LEWIS MORGAN made sure that Dhesi's prod got over the line after Matt Mathers had crossed and the game was effectively over. The Dennyboys continued to make the sort of chances that need to be converted, once the season starts. CHRIS DAVEY scored the goal of the game on seventy minutes, firing into the top corner after skipper Matt Morgan had set up the chance.
All in all, in had been a good run out for Thackley a week before the
season starts.

Two goals from PAUL BUTLER in the opening twelve minutes, set the seal on this encounter early on, but Bentham never gave up. They conceded again on twenty three minutes, KYLE BERRY firing home. Thackley were creating most of the chances but Bentham held out to the break.

NICKY MATTHEWS got his name on the score sheet after ten minutes of the SECOND HALF. Henriques Luis saw his penalty hit the bar and rebound to safety before substitute MATTHEW KRAUS netted a brace.

It had been another good competitive game for the Dennyboys.
