After 4 consecutive postponements due to waterlogged and subsequently frozen pitches, Thackley were back in match action yesterday evening as Guiseley AFC visited Dennyfield for a friendly match. Both teams went with strong teams as the respective management teams looked to get minutes in the legs of their squads. It was a first time in the dugout for new permanent Joint Managers Tom Greaves and Danny Forrest for the Dennyboys, the latter who started the season as Assistant Manager for the Lions.
It was a quick start from the visitors and Wilson, back in the Thackley goal, had to be alert to tip a Guiseley free kick on the edge of the area onto the cross bar after a few minutes. Guiseley AFC would take the lead on 13 mins from a corner into the six yard box which found Callum Chippendale, brother of Thackley AFC Player / Coach Aidan Chippendale, who headed home. ((0-1 - 13mins)
On 18 mins, Thackley launched their own attack, as McCready (starting at left back) found Sinfield who did well to play in Grech-Brooksbank, He went down under pressure and appealed for a penalty, but the ball fell to Aidan Chippendale on the right wing who stepped inside and hit a shot with his left foot which the keeper held. On 23 mins Wilson was alert again as he saved a Cassidy shot which he tipped around the post for a corner, which was ultimately cleared. On 25 mins Aidan Chippendale had the ball in the Guiseley net after he was played through and went past the keeper, but the linesman's flag went up for offside in what looked like a close decision. On 35 mins, Thackley's best move of the half saw a long crossfield pass from Chippendale to Attakorah who was again causing problems with his speed. He did well down the left before playing in Sinfield who got a shot in, but it was cleared. Almost immediately Guiseley counter attacked and had a good opportunity but the effort was fired over the cross bar.
Half time: Thackley AFC 0 v 1 Guiseley AFC
Both teams made a number of changes at half time, and Thackley used all of their bench as Hargreaves, Bradbury, Ingham, Basi, Crawford, Greaves and Murphy all entered the game. On 55 mins, Bradbury did well to catch a free kick as the Guiseley players appealed for a penalty after Basi had checked the striker's attacking run. The ball was played forward quickly to Greaves who turned his man and got a shot away from the edge of the box, but it was saved by the Guiseley substitute keeper. On 60 mins, Bradbury was alert and he got down well to tip a near post shot from "Trialist" (number 12), who looked lively since coming on at half time for the Lions, around the post for a corner. .
On 68 mins, Thackley should have levelled the game. Greaves did well to play in Attakorah down the middle who had made a good run. He turned the defender and played the ball back to Greaves who had overlapped him on the right and he had a clear shot on goal. He went for power which the keeper made a good save from. It was to be costly, as Guiseley extended the lead shortly after. The ball was on the right wing and Chapman was faced up by Hargreaves. Chapman put the cross in which took a deflection and spun into the far corner of the net and in off the post. ((0-2) - 75mins)
10 minutes later, the victory was sealed as a good through ball saw Lewis Hey according to the Guiseley twitter account (albeit Hey was not named on the team sheet) through one on one with Bradbury. He knocked the ball to his right and had an empty net to finish into. ((0-3) - 85mins)
There was still time for a Greaves overhead kick on 88 minutes which forced a Guiseley defender into a good headed block, but that was the last real action of the game as the referee brought proceedings to an end.
