Overview:
Thackley begin their Emirates FA Cup campaign on Saturday when they travel to Manchester to face North West Counties Football League side Irlam FC.
The Dennyboys head into the game with a high amount of optimism after the opening day of the season, which saw them defeat newly promoted Wombwell Town 1-0 thanks to a goal from Paul Walker.
Everyone associated with the club will also be hoping that the new look team can replicate the success in the competition from last season, reaching the First Round Qualifying and giving a good account against Northern Premier League side Warrington Rylands.
The Opposition:
Irlam have began the season as one of the fancied sides in the NWCFL Premier Divison, with two league games already under their belt heading into this cup fixture.
John Main‘s side began their campaign with a 3-2 victory away at AFC Liverpool, before their first home game of the season ended in defeat to Pilkington, with the visitors taking a 2-1 win.
A tough test is expected for Jamie Price’s team as they travel to the other side of the Pennines, with Irlam having finished 7th in the NWCFL Premier Division last season, competing well alongside the likes of of Bury FC and Lower Breck, teams who finished on over 100 points during the previous campaign.
Key Players:
An early pace setter for Irlam has been Jack Mitchell.
In the first two games of the season, Mitchell has scored twice, with both these goals coming in the season’s opener against AFC Liverpool, with his goals playing a crucial role in his team’s victory.
James Boyd and Declan Daniels have also scored during these early fixtures, whilst also featuring in both games, showing that Irlam have a variety of options going forward that will test the Dennyboys’ defence well.
Ground Description:
Irlam’s Silver Street Stadium boasts a number of modern facilities.
These included a fully licensed clubhouse serving all of the regular drink options, as well as a catering outlet serving hot food and snacks.
Spectator facilities include a pair of covered terrace stands and a seating area, whilst there are also outside toilets.
