Barton Town v Thackley AFC - Match Preview

NCEL Premier Divison - Saturday 23rd August 2025 - Kick-Off 3.00pm

Match Preview by Cayden Sands

Overview:
Thackley return to the road on Saturday when they travel to Humberside to face Barton Town.

This game comes amidst a very quick turnover of fixtures for the Dennyboys following Wednesday night’s defeat to Knaresborough Town at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield.

Despite this defeat, Jamie Price’s squad have still enjoyed a very positive start to the league campaign, with this latest day on the road representing an excellent opportunity for the team to reach double figures in their points tally after six games.

The Opposition:
Welcoming Thackley to North Lincolnshire are Barton Town, who have had a strong start to their league campaign and currently sit fourth in the league.

Alongside an Emirates FA Cup upset in which they defeated Step Four side Loughborough Students, the ‘Swans’ have also put up some impressive results in the league, including a 1-0 victory over Frickley Athletic and a convincing 3-1 triumph against Albion Sports.

Though it is still very early in the campaign, there are already indications that this is turning out to be a much more positive campaign for the team, with them being determined to maintain this good start.

Key Players:
Barton have had a number of scorers so far in this campaign, with a few players finding the net more than once.

Names such as Fraser Papprill, Lewis Stephens and Thomas Waudby have all been vital in front of goal so far this season, with them being the main players that the Dennyboys will have to watch out for if they’re to come away with a good result.

Previous Meetings:
Last season’s meetings between Barton and Thackley came at crucial points in the Dennyboys’ season.

The fixture in Lincolnshire came on a cold Tuesday night, with Antony Brown scoring a clinical brace that secured a 2-0 victory for Thackley and their first win of 2025.

The return leg at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield saw a 3-0 victory for the Dennyboys in which Slater Barnes, Brown and Luke Rhodes got their names on the scoresheet to secure Thackley a place in the play offs on the last day of the campaign.

Ground Description and Directions:
The Easy Buy Stadium has a capacity of 3000, with enough room in covered areas for 540 spectators, whilst 240 of that consists of the club’s seating capacity, so there’s plenty of room if you want to be out of that cold Humber air

The ground has a clubhouse and catering facilities offering the usual selection of food and beverages.

Directions:
Being south of the Humber estuary, the ground is difficult to reach on public transport from Thackley, with Scunthorpe and Hull offering the nearest frequent train services, whilst Barton upon Humber station operates less frequently, leading to inconvenience.

If you’d like a walk over the Humber Bridge, going to Hessle station provides this option.

If coming from north of the Humber estuary: Barton upon Humber is the first exit on the A15 after the Humber Bridge.

If coming from south of the Humber estuary: It is the last exit before the Humber Bridge. Then: Exit the A15 and follow the A1077 into the town. At the bottom of the hill turn right at the mini-roundabout onto Holydyke and stay on the A1077 through the Market Place (Old Mill pub on the right) towards Barrow upon Humber, past Baysgarth School (on the right), turning next left onto Falkland Way, going past Wren Kitchens (on the right). The entrance to the ground is at the end of Falkland Way at the junction with Pasture Road.
