Thackley AFC v Bottesford Town- Match Preview
NCEL Premier Division - Wednesday 3rd September 2025 - Kick-Off 7.45pm
Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
It’s another home game for Thackley this Wednesday when they welcome Bottesford Town to the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield.
This particular fixture arrives off the back of an amazing win for the Dennyboys on Saturday as they defeated Albion Sports 3-1 in BD10, a result which takes the side into double figures for points this season.
Jamie Price’s team will be looking to build on this performance and continue to compete with the sides higher up the NCEL Premier Division, with this game being an ideal opportunity to do just that.
The Opposition:
Bottesford Town arrive in Thackley having had a mixed start to their campaign.
Sitting on just four points for the season so far, the ‘Poachers’ have been able to take some comfort in a strong Emirates FA Cup showing that saw them face Northern Premier League Division One East club Matlock Town.
Alongside their cup triumphs against Melton Town and Daventry Town, Bottesford’s sole league success came in the form of a 1-0 victory over Frickley Athletic, whilst their draw would come against Knareborough Town.
Though it is still early in the season, Bottesford have thus far almost replicated the position in which they finished last season, though there is still plenty of time for them to build on their 16th place finish and help the club move up the league.
Key Player:
The main man going forward thus far for Bottesford has been Jack McMenemy.
Scoring four times so far in all competitions in this campaign, McMenemy has been a big part of Leigh Herrick’s side and their goalscoring exploits.
Alongside scoring in all three of the team’s Emirates FA Cup games, McMenemy also netted in the Knaresborough draw.
He also scored a number of goals throughout Bottesford’s pre season campaign, proving his value to the team as the season got underway.
Previous Meeting:
The Dennyboys and the Poachers last met in December 2024, with Thackley emerging as 3-0 winners on the occasion.
After Tawheed Ahmed’s goal in the 14th minute got the Dennyboys going, two goals in quick succession from Ben Grech-Brooksbank and Antony Brown in the second half secured the points for the team.
Added onto this victory was a first clean sheet for the side since September as Michael Roxburgh was spotless between the sticks.
