NCEL Premier Division - Saturday 6th September 2025 - Kick-Off 3.00pm
Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
Thackley return to the road on Saturday when they travel to North Yorkshire to face Tadcaster Albion in the NCEL Premier Division.
Following last week’s victory over Albion Sports and the positives taken from the following game against Bottesford Town, Jamie Price’s side will be optimistic going into what is a tough fixture against the league leaders.
The game also represents a chance for the Dennyboys’ supporters to get a first look at new signing Toby Marriott, who joined the club from Ilkley Town and will be hoping to make an immediate impact up front.
The Opposition:
Tadcaster Albion have had a very impressive start to the season, having a near perfect record that sees them currently sit top of the NCEL Premier Division.
Notable victories for the ‘Brewers’ have included their 3-0 triumphs against Wombwell Town, Horbury Town and Frickley Athletic, whilst they also picked up an impressive opening day victory against Beverley Town, defeating the Beavers 3-2.
Their sole defeats have been two narrow ones, being defeated 3-2 by Thornaby in the Emirates FA Cup, before their only league loss so far came at the hands of Penistone Church, who defeated them 2-1.
Key Players:
Thus far, Tadcaster have demonstrated a clear capacity for goals, with their current leading scorer being Oliver Green, who has six goals in all competitions, including a hat trick against Horbury.
Alfie Dean has also been a key name going forward, with him scoring four times so far.
Previous Meeting:
The two teams previously met back in November at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield, with Thackley coming from behind to secure an important 2-1 win.
After Elliott Andrew gave Tadcaster the lead in the first half, Antony Brown would get the equaliser for the Dennyboys in the 55th minute before Ben Grech-Brooksbank secured the victory with a 95th minute penalty.
Ground Description and Directions:
Having played in the Northern Premier League for a good period, Tadcaster have access to some good facilities for this level, with The Young Guns Arena having a capacity of 1,500, including enough covered space for 400 spectators and room for 150 more in the seated stand.
The ground also boasts a clubhouse serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
The Young Guns Arena is located within reach of the town centre and whilst there is no train station in the area (Ulleskelf and York are two examples of the closest), the town is well served by buses coming from both Leeds and York, with the former serving the town via the famous Coastliner route, whilst the latter has the Transdev 840 and 843 routes, all of which will take you to within a walking distance of the ground.
Drivers are encouraged to enter the town via the A64 before following the signposts to the ground that can be found around the town
