Overview:
Thackley return to NCEL Premier Division action on Tuesday night when they make the trip to face Liversedge FC.
Now facing four consecutive games on their travels, the Dennyboys will be looking to impress theagainst some strong opposition, with this fixture providing a perfect opportunity to do just that.
As the team continues to develop with new signings and an established line up of players, supporters will be hoping that this will soon translate into another excellent run, similar to what was seen during the first games of the campaign.
The Opposition:
Hosting Thackley for this latest fixture are one of last season’s relegated step four sides, Liversedge FC.
‘Sedge’ as they are known by their supporters made an overhaul to their squad over the summer, making some crucial signings as they look to make an immediate return to the NPL East.
Managed by former Dennyboys manager Danny Forrest, who already has a wealth of experience at this level, everybody involved with the club will be hopeful that his experience can guarantee success.
Their season so far has been a positive one as they currently occupy the third place spot in the league table.
Positive results have included 2-0 victories over Beverley Town, Eccleshill United and Horbury Town, whilst also defeating Wombwell Town 4-0 and Knaresborough Town 3-1.
Key Player:
In a reflection of the team’s positive goal scoring record so far this season, their top goal scorer has been Kelan Swales, who so far has four goals to his name in the league, with these goals coming against the likes Beverley, Wombwell and Horbury.
Previous Meeting:
Thackley and Liversedge’s previous league meeting came at the end of the 2018-19 season, with the visitors taking the three points with a 2-1 win at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield.
Liversedge would race into a 2-0 lead before half time, with goals from Brandon Kane and Joe Walton giving them some breathing room, but a quick goal from Daniel Broadbent that followed Liversedge’s second made the game interesting.
However, Liversedge would hold out through the second half for the victory.
Ground Description and Directions:
The Clayborn Ground is one of the NCEL Premier Division’s unique grounds, being situated in a sort of hole at the bottom of a hill.
The ground’s current capacity is 2,000, with 750 of this being covered, whilst there is enough room in the seating areas for 250 spectators.
The ground also has catering facilities and a clubhouse, serving a range of food and refreshements.
Directions:
From M62: From J26, take the A638 into Cleckheaton. Turn right at the lights on the corner of Memorial Park, go through the next lights and under the railway bridge. Turn first left (Hightown Road) and Quaker Lane is approximately ¼ mile on the left and leads to the ground. From M1: From J40, take the A638 through Dewsbury and Heckmondwike into Cleckheaton, turn left at the Memorial Park lights, then as above.
