Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
Thackley’s FA Vase campaign begins on Saturday when they travel to NCEL Division One side Harrogate Railway Athletic.
Following Tuesday night’s draw against Liversedge in which Jamie Price’s team put in an impressive performance that saw them pick up a point, optimism for this year’s FA Vase competition remains high.
However, Harrogate Railway will definitely be a tough opposition following their excellent start to their league season.
The Opposition:
Harrogate Railway are enjoying one of their strongest starts to a season for some time, with them currently sitting second in the NCEL Division One.
The ‘Rail’ as they are known have only lost a single game so far this season, this being a 3-2 loss against Doncaster City in the league.
Aside from this sole blemish on their record, they have picked up some very notable results, including several 3-0 wins against the likes of Leeds UFCA, Ilkley Town, and Route One Rovers, whilst also managing a 5-0 triumph away at Glasshoughton Welfare in their most notable result of the season thus far.
Key Players:
Harrogate Railway have a number of key players going forward, with their goalscoring record showing that Alex Burton has been the one to watch in this area.
In all competitions, Burton has scored nine goals, an impressive stat at this point in the campaign.
Other names that have proved important for the Dennyboys’ hosts include Harris Eggleston, who has managed to score five goals, whilst Dominic Creamer has managed four goals to complement this.
Previous Meeting:
The previous league meeting between Thackley and Harrogate Railway took place during the latter’s most recent NCEL Premier Division campaign, this being the 2018-19 season.
After going behind twice, the Dennyboys managed to establish some control over the game and eventually won the game 5-3.
Goals from Nicholas Matthews, Jerome White, Ryan Basi, Kristian Hargreaves and Jack Normanton ensured that the points didn’t leave the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield on this occasion.
Ground Description and Directions:
Being a well established club, Harrogate Railway’s ground reflects this.
The Dagger Diving Stadium currently holds 3,500 spectators, with 600 of this being covered, whilst 300 of these covered spaces are seated.
The clubhouse boasts a games room and a TV room, whilst there is also a catering outlet serving refreshments and hot food.
