Golcar United V Thackley AFC - Match Preview
Macron NCEL Premier Division - Saturday 27th September 2025 - Kick-Off 3.00pm
Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
Thackley’s priorities return to the NCEL Premier Division on Saturday when they travel to Golcar United.
Following on from last week’s exit from the FA Vase on penalties at the hands of Harrogate Railway Athletic, this game represents a brilliant opportunity to bounce back as the Dennyboys hope to prove themselves against the teams around them.
As the campaign reaches an incredibly busy period, this run of fixtures will also be a big test of the team’s resilience, with plenty of chances to get some good results up for grabs.
The Opposition:
Golcar United find themselves in a much different position to where they were last season.
After a very notable overhaul of the team during the period between this season and last, this has left the ‘Weavers’ currently sat 16th in the league table.
Despite not having the best of starts, the team now seem to be hitting a decent level of form, with them picking up a much needed 2-1 win over Horbury Town, before beating Frickley Athletic by an emphatic 6-1 scoreline.
Still finding their feet, it will be interesting to see how Golcar develop as the season progresses, with their schedule of upcoming fixtures representing some interesting challenges.
Key Players:
Scoring four goals for Golcar so far, George Doyle has proven to be vital this season.
As one of the players remaining from last season’s side, Doyle has stepped up and provided a crucial outlet for goals as the team look to pick up some positive results.
Ryan Wadsworth meanwhile has three goals to his name, with him potentially also being vital.
Previous Meeting:
Last meeting in December 2024, Golcar and Thackley’s previous encounter was a day to remember for supporters of the Dennyboys.
After going ahead early in the first half thanks to Ben Grech-Brooksbank, the team would pull off a brilliant performance, with winger Finn Donovan scoring a second half hat trick.
This confirmed a 4-0 win for the Dennyboys against the current NCEL Premier Division leaders at that stage.

Golcar’s Skye Direct Stadium has seen plenty of enhancements in recent years, with the installation of both floodlights and a 100 capacity seated stand since the club’s promotion into the pyramid.
