Pickering Town V Thackley AFC - Match Preview

Macron NCEL Premier Division - Saturday 4th October 2025 - Kick-Off 3.00pm

Match Preview by Cayden Sands

Overview:
Thackley’s away days continue on Saturday when they make the trip up to Pickering Town.

Following a pair of positive performances in the recent fixtures against Golcar United and Ossett United, supporters of the Dennyboys are hopeful of another positive showing against a tough opposition.

Furthermore, there will also be a chance of a debut to look forward to, with forward Ryan Conlon signing for the Dennyboys from Albion Sports, giving the team a good option in a key position.

The Opposition:
Hosting Thackley in North Yorkshire are Pickering Town, who have proven themselves as play off contenders this season.

‘Pikes’ have been able to pick up some very good results and currently sit seventh in the NCEL Premier Division table.

These have included a 3-2 victory against Golcar United, a 4-1 win against Handsworth FC and a very exciting triumph against Eccleshill United by a 3-2 scoreline.

Perhaps most notably however, Pickering also enjoyed a strong Emirates FA Cup run, eventually bowing out to Runcorn Linnets in front of a crowd of just over 1,000 people.

Key Players:
Undoubtedly the key name for Pickering going forward has been Souleymane Coulibaly, who has scored 12 goals in all competitions so far, giving him a good position in the league’s golden boot race.

However, he is closely followed by George Brown, who has scored nine, including five in cup competitions, with both players already showing their goalscoring capabilities well at this point of the season.

Previous Meeting:
The most recent meeting between Thackley and Pickering took place at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield last season, with the visitors taking points on this occasion.

Taking advantage of the Dennyboys’ unlucky moments in front of goal that day, Brown and Omar Sanyang scored at the end of both halves, securing a 2-0 victory for Pickering.

Ground Description and Directions:
Finding itself just a short distance from the famous Flamingo Land Resort (who are also the main sponsors of the club), Pickering’s Mill Lane ground has a total capacity of 2000, with room for 500 spectators in covered areas, whilst also having 200 seats, a good number for any ground at this level of the pyramid.

The ground’s rural location means it isn’t the easiest to reach via public transport, with the recommended route being the Transdev York 840 bus that departs the city and terminates in Pickering after a journey time of around 75 minutes.

The town is also accessible via Leeds on the famous Coastliner bus route.

Those driving are recommended to enter the town via the A169 before arriving at Mill Lane not long after.
