It’s derby day for Thackley on Saturday when they face Campion AFC at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield.
Following last Saturday’s comeback victory against Pickering Town, Jamie Price’s side will be looking to continue their current momentum in what looks to be a very interesting fixture.
With Campion having several former Dennyboys in their ranks, this game is sure to be one of the season’s highlights, with the fact of it being a Bradford derby only multiplying this fact.
The Opposition:
Much like the Dennyboys, Campion also sit on 16 points so far in the NCEL Premier Division.
Their season has seen some very notable results, such as a 3-1 victory over Eccleshill United and a 4-0 win against Frickley Athletic.
However, the ‘Red and Blacks’ are having great success in cup competitions, with them progressing very well in the FA Vase, defeating the likes North West Counties Football League sides Penrith and Padiham along the way in the competition.
Campion have also progressed past the first round of the NCEL League Cup, defeating Wombwell Town 1-0 in the first round.
Key Players:
Campion have a number of very important players at both ends of the pitch.
Leading the way in goals currently is Patrick Sykes, who has seven goals in all competitions to his name.
Alongside this, Ewan Gregson and Max Dickinson both sit healthily on four goals each.
Defensively, Campion possess a number of familiar names, with names such as Ben Bodle, Luke Rhodes and Harry Parsons doing the work in that department.
Between the sticks is goalkeeper Luke Wilson, who will be very familiar to anyone who has watched a Thackley game in the past decade, with him already being one of the league’s most experienced shot stoppers.
Previous Meeting:
The most recent meeting between Thackley and Campion came back in March, in which the Dennyboys picked up an impressive 2-0 win.
Goals from Slater Barnes and Ben Grech-Brooksbank ensured that Thackley picked up the points, which later proved to be extremely important in the team’s play off hunt.
