Macron NCEL Premier Division - Saturday 18th October 2025 - Kick-Off 3.00pm
Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
It’s back to league action for Thackley on Saturday when they welcome recently relegated Sheffield FC to the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield.
Following the exit from the NCEL League Cup against Knaresborough Town in midweek, this allows the Dennyboys’ attention to be solely on their league fixtures going forward.
The visitors will provide a very tough opponent for Jamie Price’s team, with them performing well up to this stage of the season.
The Opposition:
As the oldest club in football, Sheffield FC have made a return to the NCEL after 18 years away.
The ‘Club’ currently sit 6th in the NCEL Premier Division and along the way have picked up some notable results.
These include their 4-0 triumph away at Golcar United, their 5-0 win against Frickley Athletic and a recent 4-2 win against fellow promotion contenders Barton Town.
They have also progressed in the NCEL League Cup, defeating Crowle Colts in an exciting 3-2 affair.
Key Players:
The obvious key player for Sheffield is Alexander Hardwick, who has made a name for himself thanks to his recent goalscoring exploits.
In all competitions, Hardwick has scored 17 goals, a very impressive total at this stage of the season and one that is sure to make him a player feared by many opponents going forward.
Another player to keep an eye out for is Nathaniel Crofts, who has experience higher up the pyramid, with him representing Guiseley AFC during the 2022-23 season.
Crofts currently sits on four goals this campaign.
Previous Meeting:
Because of Sheffield’s long stint in the Northern Premier League, you have to go back some way to their most recent league meeting against Thackley.
This came in January 2007 and saw Sheffield win 4-0.
On the scoresheet on this occasion were Gary Townsend, Darryl Winter, David Wilkins and Vill Powell.
