Macron NCEL Premier Division - Saturday 25th October 2025 - Kick-Off 3.00pm
Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
Thackley’s adventures on the road resume on Saturday when they travel to South Yorkshire to face Handsworth FC.
This follows last week’s narrow defeat against Sheffield FC, who have been one of the teams to beat in the league this season.
Though another difficult task lays at hand, the Dennyboys will be full of confidence following their good run of results over recent weeks.
The Opposition:
In the first few months of this campaign, it has become clear that Handsworth are one of the league’s strongest sides when it comes to getting goals, with them winning several matches by large margins.
Results include their 5-2 win against Albion Sports, a 4-0 triumph at the expense of Knaresborough Town and a 3-0 victory against Frickley Athletic.
The ‘Ambers’ as they are known have also claimed some good results against some of the league’s top sides this season, managing to beat Liversedge FC and gain a point at Sheffield FC.
Key Players:
The main characters of Handsworth’s goalscoring are Mitchell Dunne and Scott Ruthven.
Both proven players, they have scored a combined 13 goals across all competitions, with Dunne scoring seven and Ruthven managing to score six, which many see as respectable at this point of the season.
Previous Meeting:
The most recent meeting between Thackley and Handsworth came at an important point in the season for both sides, with them both in the hunt for a play off spot.
It would the visiting team that left the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield with the points, with an early opener from Owen Haigh that was followed by Henry Carne securing a 2-1 victory despite Ben Grech-Brooksbank getting a goal back.
Ground Description and Directions:
Handsworth’s Express Worktops Stadium holds a capacity of 2,225, with a seated capacity of 225 and enough cover for 415 spectators, leaving plenty of room should the ground’s covered areas be needed!
The ground also has a clubhouse that serves the usual choices of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
Ground Directions:
Handsworth is accessible from Sheffield City Centre through a variety of both bus and train routes, whilst the Sheffield Supertram also serves within a walking distance of the ground.
Those travelling by rail should travel to Darnall rail station, approximately a mile from the ground. The station is usually served by a direct service from Leeds that runs hourly.
