Macron NCEL Premier Division- Saturday 17th January 2026- Kick Off: 3.00pm
Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
Thackley’s travels resume on Saturday as they travel to Penistone Church.
Following last week’s postponement against Tadcaster Albion, the team has had an extra week to rest and recuperate after the 2-2 draw with Bottesford Town.
The game also represents the opportunity for the team to pick up their first win of 2026.
The Opposition:
After a positive start to the season, Penistone Church now find themselves in the lower half of the table.
Since their previous game against the Dennyboys, Penistone have struggled for positive results in the league, with some notable losses against sides such as Handsworth and Parkgate, these coming by 4-0 and 6-1 scorelines.
More positive outcomes include their 3-2 win against Frickley Athletic, alongside their good run in the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup.
Key Players:
Samuel Scrivens is the team’s current top scorer in all competitions, having 11 to his name, a good total for a player that has experience further up the pyramid.
Behind him is Leon Hurles-Brook, with five goals.
Previous Meeting:
The most recent meeting between Thackley and Penistone came back in September, with the South Yorkshire team leaving the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield with the points.
A goal late in the first half from Scrivens proved to be the difference on the occasion.
