Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
It’s a huge game at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield on Saturday as table topping Liversedge are the latest test for Thackley.
After last week’s defeat at Penistone Church and the postponement of their fixture against Tadcaster Albion, the team will be eager to get their 2026 going against a tough opponent.
The game also represents a significant return to BD10, with Danny Forrest representing the opposition in the dugout following his departure after last season.
The Opposition:
At this point of the season, Liversedge sit firmly at the summit of the NCEL Premier Division table, with their gap to second placed Beverley Town currently on eight points.
After their previous meeting with Thackley back in September, ‘Sedge’ managed to get on a run of positive results that have included their 3-0 win over Tadcaster, a 4-1 win against play off hopefuls Campion AFC, an impressive 5-0 victory against Parkgate and their exciting 4-3 win against Horbury Town.
The campaign has seen little disappointment for the team, with them hoping to continue their title charge in as comfortable a manner as possible.
Key Players:
As would be expected from the league leaders, Liversedge have a number of options going forward that have scored a good amount of goals.
The top scorer in all competitions, Kelan Swales, has scored 14 goals in all competitions.
Meanwhile, former Dennyboys George Green and Antony Brown have eight and 11 respectively.
Joseph Walton and Lewis Barlow have also contributed, managing six goals each in all competitions.
Previous Meeting:
The most recent game between Thackley and Liversedge was an enjoyable affair for the neutral, with plenty of chances at both ends.
Paul Walker’s stunning effort in the first half ensured that Thackley went in ahead at half time, before a link up between Brown and Green secured a fair draw at the Clayborn Ground for the hosts.
