Thackley AFC V Liversedge FC- Match Report
Macron NCEL Premier Division- Saturday 24th January 2026- Kick Off: 3.00pm
Match Report by Cayden Sands
An amazing showing from Thackley and a first half goal from Keanan Mannings secured a 1-0 win for the team against table toppers Liversedge.
Jamie Price’s side began the game well and looked on top early, with Harvey Coates narrowly missing with a header on the 15 minute mark in the game’s first big chance.
After Liversedge forced Liam Wilson into a save following a header from Chris Atkinson only five minutes later, Lewis Sugden would once again show his worth to Thackley, having an effort at goal that Jordan Porter managed to save, before delivering the corner that Mannings would convert on the 23 minute mark.
The corner would make its way over the Liversedge players in the box before Mannings dived in to convert the chance to put Thackley ahead.
The Dennyboys continued to press their opponents following a good period of pressure from Liversedge, with more chances coming for the likes of Nathan Hunt, though Hass Gorji had perhaps the best chance to extend the team’s lead before half time.
Following another excellent corner from Sugden, the ball bounced around the face of goal before it looked like Gorji had got to it, only to see the ball cleared away off the line and away in a massive relief for the visitors.
Half time would arrive not long after this, with the Dennyboys enjoying an excellent performance that would need to continue after the interval if they wanted the result they desired.
HALF TIME: Thackley AFC 1-0 Liversedge FC
Liversedge would be on top following the restart as they looked for an equaliser, with Thackley defending well amidst the pressure.
This was almost rewarded in the 58th minute when with the ball in the box, an initial chance from Hunt was deflected before Toby Marriott retrieved said deflection before his effort was saved by Porter, leading to a corner.
Wilson would be called into action following this, with Liversedge making their way up the pitch and having perhaps their best chance of the game after Joe Walton latched onto a cross and looked to have headed the ball past Wilson, only to see that the Thackley keeper had been able to tip the ball onto the bar, denying the visitors a goal.
The 68th minute saw Wilson make another great save, this time from an Alfie Dean volley that really tested the keeper’s reflexes, but much to the relief of all involved at Thackley, he managed to deal with it.
As the game’s entered the final 20 minutes, Thackley had another good spell of momentum, with Luke Brooks having an opportunity on the 74 minute mark that went wide before a cross from Hunt found the head of Marriott, who was able to leave Porter motionless, but his chance could only hit the post, just two minutes after Brooks’ earlier effort.
The Dennyboys would begin their efforts to consolidate the scoreline in the game’s remaining minutes, with this being well achieved in a professional manner that confirmed Thackley’s status as deserved winners of the game.
The referee’s whistle would end the game following an extended added time period, with Thackley taking the three points against a very good Liversedge team, making them only the second team to do so in the league this season.
