Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
It’s another afternoon on the road for Thackley as they travel to face Sheffield FC at the Home Of Football Stadium.
After last week’s visit to Parkgate that saw the side pick up a 1-1 draw, there will be plenty of optimism heading into this game as the team goes in search of another strong result in their quest for the elusive 40 point mark.
There will also be added confidence following the game against Tadcaster Albion, in which Thackley made a play off chasing side settle for a point.
The Opposition:
Following their relegation from the Northern Premier League Division One East, Sheffield FC have enjoyed a good season in the NCEL.
‘The Club’ currently find themselves well within the play off the picture, particularly as they have four games in hand over the other sides around them.
Following the earlier game between Thackley and Sheffield and this season, the team have enjoyed a run of consistently strong results and have a knack for goals.
These results include a 4-1 win against Bottesford Town, an even more resounding 6-0 win against Parkgate, an emphatic 10-2 win against Albion Sports and their 7-1 win against Wombwell Town.
Recent games have seen the team beat Golcar United 3-1 and Eccleshill United 3-0.
Key Players:
The player scoring most of the goals in this Sheffield side is Alexander Hardwick, who has scored a superb 29 goals in all competitions.
Behind him are Ryan Cook and Nathan Whitehead, with these names having a solid five and nine goals respectively.
Previous Meeting:
The earlier game between Thackley and Sheffield this season saw a narrow victory for Sheffield by a 1-0 scoreline.
A good showing from Jamie Price’s team was undone thanks to a Corey Gregory effort.
