Game of two halves sees Thackley suffer defeat

Beverley Town 5 v 1 Thackley AFC - Match Report

Macron NCEL Premier Division- Saturday 28th March 2026- Kick Off: 3pm

Match Report by Harry Baxendale

Thackley AFC suffered a difficult afternoon on the road as a strong first-half performance was undone by a devastating spell after the break, with Beverley Town scoring five times to secure victory.

Thackley were dealt a blow in the warm up, as Captain Keanan Mannings suffered an injury and had to withdraw, to be replaced by Mason Wilson.

The opening stages saw Beverley enjoy the majority of possession, though they struggled to create any clear-cut chances in the first ten minutes.

Thackley grew into the game and began to threaten. On 13 minutes, Toby Marriott saw a strike from distance blocked for a corner, while two minutes later Hass Gorji was played through on goal, only to be denied by a good save before his rebound was cleared off the line.

Gorji was involved again on 18 minutes when a defensive error presented another opportunity, but he was unable to capitalise as the goalkeeper reacted quickly.

There was a lengthy stoppage around the half-hour mark following an injury and a brief altercation, before play resumed with both sides looking to regain momentum.

On 37 minutes, Luke Brooks and Marriott combined well on the counter-attack to win a corner, though the chance came to nothing.

The breakthrough arrived on 44 minutes. A superb delivery from Jaedyn Chibanga picked out Gorji at the back post, and this time he made no mistake, finishing confidently to give the Dennyboys a deserved lead.

HALF TIME: Beverley Town 0 v 1 Thackley AFC

Thackley’s advantage was short-lived as Beverley equalised on 51 minutes through Glen Sani, following a ball over the top to which he beat Liam Wilson and Tom Parkinson to, to lift into an empty net.

The hosts then took control of the match in dramatic fashion. On 53 minutes, a well-worked free kick was driven low into the net to give Beverley the lead, before Sani added his second just two minutes later to make it 3–1 with a lob from distance after a clearance from Liam Wilson landed to him.

Three goals in quick succession turned the game on its head and shifted the momentum firmly in favour of the hosts.

Marriott was booked on 60 minutes, and manager Jamie Price looked to his bench for a response, introducing Nathan Hunt for Brooks on 70 minutes.

However, Beverley extended their lead further on 72 minutes, capitalising on a defensive miscommunication to make it four.

Further changes followed, with Marcel Stepniewski replacing Chibanga on 76 minutes and Ruben Bartkiw coming on for Mason Wilson on 81 minutes to make his debut.

With Thackley pushing forward in search of a way back into the game, Beverley struck again on 80 minutes, finishing a quick counter-attack to seal the result.

FULL TIME: Beverley Town 5 v 1 Thackley AFC

A game of two halves ultimately ended in disappointment for the Dennyboys. After a strong first-half showing and a deserved lead, a rapid spell early in the second half proved decisive as Beverley turned the game around.

Attention now turns to the final home fixture of the season, as Thackley host Eccleshill United in a crucial local derby. Thackley can guarantee survival by beating the Eagles. Matching Bottesford Town's result will also see survival, but the Dennyboys will be looking to secure its fate with 3 points on the final day of the season.

The club would like to thank all travelling supporters for their continued backing.
