Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview
It’s perhaps the biggest game in Thackley’s recent history as they take on their local rivals Eccleshill United at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield.
Following last week’s heavy defeat away at Beverley Town and various results in the division, the game takes on an added significance as Thackley look to avoid relegation.
The game will also be Thackley’s final Bradford derby of the campaign, with a big crowd expected ahead of what could be a crucial game.
The Opposition:
Having now confirmed safety from relegation, this game represents an opportunity for Eccleshill United to end the season on a high.
Following their win against Wombwell Town in midweek, the ‘Eagles’ ensured that their position in next season’s Northern Counties East League was secure.
Ever since their previous meeting with Thackley back in November, the team have recovered well and managed to pick up some strong results.
These include a 3-2 triumph over Tadcaster Albion, a 3-1 win against Penistone Church, their 1-1 draw against Liversedge and a crucial victory against Rossington Main by a 2-1 scoreline.
Key Players:
The current leading goal scorer at Eccleshill is Zackary Sangster, who has a total of six to his name in the league.
Behind him are Joseph Storey, Stevie Ellix and Lewis Waddington have four each.
A familiar name also makes his return to the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield, with Alfie Gibbon playing against his former club for the first time.
Previous Meeting:
The previous meeting between Thackley and Eccleshill saw the visitors win 2-0 at Cougar Park.
Early goals courtesy of Toby Marriott and Hass Gorji secured an important result that sent the brilliant travelling support back to Thackley immensely happy.
