NCEL Premier Divison - Wednesday 27th August 2025 - Kick-Off 7.45pm
Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
It’s another midweek game at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield as Thackley host Parkgate FC in their latest NCEL Premier Division test.
Following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Barton Town in which the Dennyboys put in a positive performance despite the result, Jamie Price’s squad will be looking to go one better on this occasion and seal an important victory against their South Yorkshire visitors.
With the season now in full swing, and the squad starting to look settled, this game represents the perfect chance for the Dennyboys to get into double figures with their points total and pick up another victory.
The Opposition:
Parkgate arrive in BD10 having made a similar start to the season to the Dennyboys.
The ‘Steelmen’ have picked up six points in the league so far against the seven picked up by Thackley, with their sole victory coming against Handsworth by a 2-0 scoreline.
Alongside this, they progressed to the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Eccleshill United, whilst also getting a point against the same side in their first league encounter, with their other draws coming against Pickering Town and Beverley Town.
Curiously, Parkgate have also played Wombwell Town away twice in the space of a week, once in the FA Cup and once in the league, losing both games 2-1 to two first half goals, before Alex Wonham would also score in both games to get one back for Scott Mason’s side.
Key Players:
Up to this stage of the season, Parkgate have scored five times in the league, with two of these goals coming from Harry Day.
Day bagged a brace in the team’s 2-0 victory against Handsworth, and will be hoping to add to his tally against Thackley.
Meanwhile, the aforementioned Wonham scored against Pickering and Beverley before his efforts against Wombwell, proving his capacity for goals.
Previous Meeting:
The previous campaign’s encounter between at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield saw the Dennyboys and Parkgate play out a 2-2 draw.
Antony Brown was able to give Thackley a 1-0 lead going into half time, before an equaliser from Liam Tomlinson in the second half restored level pegging.
Finn Donovan would restore the advantage for the Dennyboys on 74 minutes, but this would be cancelled out by a second Parkgate equaliser in the 81st minute that was scored by Ashton Stringer to ensure the points were shared on the occasion.
