Knaresborough Town VS Thackley AFC- Match Preview
JCP Construction NCEL League Cup (In memory of James Hitchcock) - Tuesday 14th October 2025 - Kick-Off 7.45pm
Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
Thackley’s NCEL League Cup campaign begins on Tuesday night as they make the trip to North Yorkshire to face Knaresborough Town.
This fixture represents an excellent chance to continue the current momentum for the team following their emphatic 4-1 win against Campion AFC on Saturday.
Alongside this, cup competitions also allow manager Jamie Price to perhaps change some things up, whilst also fielding as strong a side as possible.
The Opposition:
Knaresborough Town currently sit level on points with the Dennyboys in the league, with 19 points from 15 matches.
Since their victory against Thackley in August, Knaresborough have had a mixed run of results, with positives including their 4-2 win against Penistone Church and a comfortable triumph at Frickley Athletic by a 3-0 scoreline.
However, some more difficult results have included their derby day defeat at Tadcaster, where they lost 2-1, and their 3-1 loss against Liversedge.
They also suffered a last minute leveller at the hands of Barton Town, with these results proving crucial as they couldn’t maintain pace with the league’s front runners.
The NCEL League Cup represents a different challenge for Simon Parkes’ side, particularly as they made the final of the same competition last season, losing narrowly to Beverley Town 3-2.
Key Players:
Knaresborough’s top scorer in all competitions this season is Jack Dyche, who currently sits on six goals for the season, one of which has come in other cup competitions.
Former Dennyboy Slater Barnes has also found his name on the scoresheet several times, having four to his name.
Jack Lazenby and Ben Gelder also find themselves in the goalscoring conversation, with them currently scoring three goals each.
Previous Meeting:
The league meeting between Thackley and Knaresborough was a fairly comfortable victory for the visitors.
Goals from Dyche, Theodore Hudson and Barnes secured a good 3-0 victory at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield as the Dennyboys still found their feet in the early part of the season.
