Dennyboys earn another point on the road

MATCH REPORT

Parkgate 1 v 1 Thackley (NCEL Premier Division)

Saturday 7th March 2026 (3pm KO) - Rotherham Hospice Community Stadium

Match report by Harry Baxendale

Thackley AFC earned a hard-fought point on the road after an entertaining contest with Parkgate at the Rotherham Hospice Community Stadium. A first-half goal from Luke Brooks cancelled out the hosts’ opener, and despite several strong opportunities in the second half, the Dennyboys were unable to find the winner.

The match got underway with both sides looking to establish control, though it was Thackley who enjoyed the greater share of possession in the early stages.

The first real chance arrived on 13 minutes when Parkgate’s forward found space in the box and connected well with a strike on goal, but Liam Wilson reacted quickly to get down and make a comfortable save.

Thackley began to build momentum, with a neat passage of play on 19 minutes creating a crossing opportunity, though Toby Marriott was judged to be in an offside position when the ball reached him in the box.

The hosts took the lead on 32 minutes when Shay Evans-Booth for the hosts finished smartly from a ball into the box, striking low and hard past Wilson.

Thackley responded positively and looked to get back into the match. On 39 minutes, Olaf Figurny showed great skill to create space with a clever dribble before unleashing a shot from distance that forced a good save from the Parkgate goalkeeper.

The equaliser arrived just before the break on 43 minutes. A flowing move through midfield ended with Paul Walker threading a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Luke Brooks, who kept his composure to slot past the keeper and level the score.

Both sides headed into the break on level terms after an evenly contested first half.

HALF TIME: Parkgate 1 v 1 Thackley

Thackley started the second half brightly and nearly took the lead on 49 minutes when Marriott flicked a header into the path of Hass Gorji, whose first-time effort from the edge of the box flashed narrowly wide.

The visitors came even closer on 56 minutes when Keanan Mannings met a cross inside the six-yard box with a powerful header. With the ball seemingly destined for the net, Dylan Parkin in net for Parkgate produced a remarkable save to somehow keep the scores level.

Thackley continued to threaten, and on 61 minutes Marriott raced through on goal, only to see his shot clip the far post. The rebound was recycled back into the box, with Marriott eventually finding the net, but celebrations were cut short as the assistant’s flag was raised for offside.

As the match entered the final stages, the contest became increasingly physical, with both teams committing fouls and the game losing some of its earlier rhythm.

Manager Jamie Price made his first changes of the afternoon on 85 minutes, introducing Jaedyn Chibanga and Thomas Parkinson in place of Hass Gorji and Callum Charlton.

Despite continued pressure and several promising moments, Thackley were unable to find the decisive breakthrough before the final whistle.

FULL TIME: Parkgate 1–1 Thackley AFC

Thackley may feel unfortunate not to leave with all three points after creating the better chances in the second half. A stunning save, an effort ruled out for offside, and a handful of missed opportunities meant the sides had to settle for a share of the spoils. Nevertheless, it was another strong performance on the road, with Brooks’ goal securing a valuable point.

The club thanks all travelling supporters for their continued backing.
