Match Report by Cayden Sands

A very hard working Thackley team secured a positive 0-0 draw against Tadcaster Albion.

The game began with the ball in the air for a lot of the time, but it would be Thackley who had the game’s first big chance on the six minute mark after Hass Gorji used some great footwork to get past his markers in the area and test Ally Hughes, but the visiting keeper produced a good save and the ball ended up going for a corner.

Both teams would continue to grow into the game and had the opposition defences working, but neither team managed to produce clear cut opportunities after the earlier chance from Gorji as the opening 15 minutes passed.

Gorji would make his presence known yet again after 18 minutes, this time getting onto a pass from Keanan Mannings that played him into a promising position, allowing for an effort that beat Hughes but could only go wide of the mark.

The hosts would suffer an injury not long after this following an injury to Lewis Sugden, who was replaced by Thomas Whelan, meaning Thackley’s approach to the game would need altering.

The visitors would enjoy a strong period as half time approached, with this culminating in a good free kick from Curtis Senior that dipped up and over the bar, ensuring Liam Wilson didn’t have to make a save.

Both teams continued to look for the opener, but as both back lines worked hard, this meant that the rest of the half would pass without much more of note, with the teams remaining level as the referee’s whistle brought the half to an end.

HALF TIME: Thackley AFC 0-0 Tadcaster Albion

The sides began the second half with some good chances, with Tadcaster showing some promise with an early free kick before Thackley saw another excellent chance go begging after Luke Brooks failed to get enough on an effort at goal.

The hour mark arrived and saw both teams still well balanced and making some changes as they hoped to alter the momentum of the game.

It would almost be Thackley that did just that when a Wilson clearance was collected by Marriott after 66 minutes, allowing him to manage a header that went over Hughes, but this was cleared away before it made its way to the net.

As the hosts continued to create some good opportunities, especially following the introduction of Tom Greaves to the game, it would be Tadcaster who almost took the lead when on the 76 minute mark, a foul from Wilson had Senior in a good position for another free kick, but this would curl just over the bar.

Thackley’s momentum showed itself again following this, with it being on the 83 minute mark that the next big chance came, with a corner finding its way into a busy penalty area before a number of the Thackley players had efforts at goal, but they would be dealt with.

Soon after this, the visitors had perhaps their best opportunity of the whole game from an effort that travelled through a very busy penalty area before it looked destined for goal, but Mason Wilson just about managed to get on the end of it to clear the opportunity over the bar.

The rest of the game would pass without many chances of note for either of the sides, allowing for them to consolidate a hard earned draw.

The referee’s whistle would then bring the game to its conclusion, confirming an excellent result for Thackley against a visiting side still well in the play off conversation.
