Campion AFC V Thackley AFC- Match Preview

Macron NCEL Premier Division - Saturday 28th February 2026- Kick Off: 3.00pm

Match Preview by Cayden Sands

Overview:
Thackley’s travels continue when they face Campion AFC in the league.

Following their victory over Wombwell Town on Tuesday night, Jamie Price’s team will be hoping to pick up another huge win on the road as they look to consolidate their position in the league table.

The game will also seen as another opportunity for the team to claim a big scalp after their victory over Liversedge FC in January.

The Opposition:
Campion AFC have had a revival since their struggles earlier in the season.

The ‘Red and Blacks’ have managed to turn their season around and are now a contender for the play offs, with them only losing a total of three more league games since their previous game against Thackley.

This run has seen the same score a flurry of goals, including in games such as their emphatic 6-1 against Tadcaster Albion, their 7-1 thrashing of Handsworth FC, as well as their 4-0 victory over Frickley Athletic and their very recent 5-0 win against Wombwell Town.

Key Players:
The main goal scorer for the team this season has been Paddy Sykes, who sits on 22 goals for the season across all competitions.

Behind him with 16 goals is Ewan Gregson, who has also been prolific.

Around the pitch, names such as Ben Bodle, Luke Rhodes, Joe Mitchell, Ben Grech-Brooksbank and Luke Wilson will be names familiar to supporters of Thackley, with their credentials obviously being known.

Previous Meeting:
The most recent league meeting between the two teams saw Thackley pick up an impressive 4-1 victory at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield.

First half efforts from Paul Walker and Luke Brooks were followed by a second half brace for Toby Marriott, whilst Grech-Brooksbank scored Campion’s consolation.
