Tadcaster Albion V Thackley AFC- Match Preview

Macron NCEL Premier Division- Saturday 1st August 2026- Kick Off: 3.00pm

Match Preview by Cayden Sands

Overview:
Thackley head to the road for the first time this season when they travel to North Yorkshire to face Tadcaster Albion.

Following their 0-0 draw against Horbury Town on Wednesday that saw the team pick up their first point of the season after a very encouraging display, Jamie Price will be hoping the team can go one better and secure their first victory of the campaign.

As more players become available as the games progress, there will be a hope that a very strong Thackley side can emerge and challenge some of the top sides in the division, something they will need to do if they want to have the best possible finish come the end of the season.

The Opposition:
Tadcaster Albion come into this fixture having endured a mixed start to their NCEL Premier Division season.

The ‘Brewers’ had a terrible opening day, losing to newly promoted side Dearne and District by a 3-1 scoreline, before rectifying this against Parkgate, defeating the Rotherham side 1-0.

Tadcaster will be hoping to go one better this season and seal their promotion back to the Northern Premier League, a feat they were narrowly unable to achieve last season after losing to Beverley Town in the play off final.

However, silverware did show itself last season in the form of the West Riding County Cup, with them defeating NCEL Division One side and defending County Cup champions Route One Rovers in the final.

Key Players:
Since the start of pre season, Charlie Owen has emerged as an early goalscorer for the team, having netted twice in pre season, before scoring the only goal in the victory over Parkgate.

Alongside him, the main scorer has been Oliver Norman, who scored three times in the initial friendlies, whilst Oliver Green also has two to his name from those games.

Previous Meeting:
Last season’s meeting between the two teams at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield saw an exciting 0-0 draw played out between the teams.

Despite an abundance of chances at both sides of the pitch, both backlines would hold firm, with this being enough to confirm a point for both teams.

Ground Description and Directions:
Tadcaster’s Young Guns Arena sits near the town centre and is one of the league’s most impressive grounds in terms of the backdrop, with the town’s two main breweries, John Smith’s and Samuel Smith’s, both towering over the ground.

Features include two seating areas that have a combined capacity of 150, whilst there is enough covered space for around 400 spectators in a total capacity of 1,500.

The ground also has a clubhouse and a catering outlet serving a variety of drinks and other refreshments.

Directions:

By Car:
From the A64 follow Tadcaster signs (A659) either from the west or east. From the west on reaching the John Smiths Brewery (just past the traffic lights) turn right down Centre Lane, carrying on down you will see the club straight in front of you. From the East, for cars, go through the town over the bridge and turn left after the pedestrian crossing down New Street, then turn left at the T-junction. For coaches continue another 50 yards and then left down Centre Lane. Turn left past the clubhouse to enter the car park. Additionally, the Club is signposted around the town with a number of brown tourist information signs.

By Public Transport:
If travelling from Thackley and the surrounding area, travel to Leeds bus station, where you will then connect on to the Coastliner bus route.

When on the bus, travel to Tadcaster and get off at John Smith’s Brewery in the town centre, where the ground is just a short walk away.
