Albion Sports V Thackley AFC- Match Preview

Macron NCEL Premier Division- Saturday 19th September 2026- Kick Off: 3.00pm

Match Preview by Cayden Sands

Overview:
Thackley return to the road on Saturday as they travel to Myra Shay to face Albion Sports in an NCEL Premier Division Bradford derby:

Following the midweek 4-0 victory over Parkgate, the Dennyboys will be hoping to continue to make their mark as they look to climb the league.

The game also represents the perfect opportunity for the team to pick up their first away win of the season in all competitions.

The Opposition:
After a difficult start to the season, Albion Sports look to have finally found their feet in this latest NCEL Premier Division campaign.

The ‘Lions’ began the season struggling to win games, but having now managed back to back wins in the division, will be hoping they can push on and try to compete for a play off position.

Managed by Lee Elam, who was the final manager of Eccleshill United, Albion’s notable results include their 1-0 victory over Rossington Main, their 2-0 win against Pickering Town, an emphatic 7-1 victory against Keighley Town and most recently, a strong 3-0 win against Parkgate.

Many of the players in this current Albion side also played for Elam under at Eccleshill and were able to finish the season strong last time out, with the group hoping they can do better and compete for a play off place.

Key Players:
As is expected with any local derby, there are plenty of talking points in the opposition.

One of these is Albion’s top scorer Talent Ndlovu, who currently has four goals to his tally across all competitions.

Just behind him are Lewis Waddington and recently departed former Dennyboy Hass Gorji, who both have three to their name.

The game will also be a family affair for Dennyboys defender Kam Basi, who faces Aran and Ryan in the latest edition of what has now been named ‘El Basico.’

Previous Meeting:
Thackley and Albion have already met this season, this coming in the Emirates FA Cup.

After a competitive game, a penalty in the 83rd minute from Ndlovu looked to have settled the tie in Albion’s favour, but two late goals courtesy of Reuben Bartkiw and Lewis Sugden, the latter also being from the spot, secured a last gasp win to send the Dennyboys through to the next round.

Ground Description and Directions:
Myra Shay is one of the league’s newest grounds and is shared by Albion and Division One side Route One Rovers, alongside FA Women’s National League Premier Division North side Halifax FC Women.

The ground has some modern features, including a terraced standing area and a seated stand, both of which offer different views of the pitch.

There is also a clubhouse area serving a popular food offering and various refreshments, including alcoholic beverages for Albion Sports matches.

Directions:
From city centre, head up Barkerend Road to lights at St Clements Church. Pitch is on left after 500 yards.

Admission Prices:
Adults: £7
Concessions: £4
