Retford United V Thackley AFC- Match Preview
Macron NCEL Premier Division- Saturday 3rd October- Kick Off: 3.00pm
Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
Thackley return to the East Midlands on Saturday as they travel to Nottinghamshire to face Retford United.
Following on from their negative results in recent fixtures, Jamie Price’s side will be hoping to pick up a positive result against a play off chasing Retford side, whilst also travelling to Nottinghamshire for the second time in just over a month.
The Opposition:
Retford United come into this fixture in fine form and currently sat in fourth place in the NCEL Premier Division.
The ‘Badgers’, much like their rivals from across town, have transitioned well to life in the division following their move sideways from the United Counties League and have firmly established themselves as play off contenders.
This feat has very much been earned, with positive results including a 3-0 win against Albion Sports, a 4-3 win over fellow promotion chasers Barton Town in which they came back from 3-0 down, and a 2-1 victory over Campion AFC that further solidified their play off hopes.
Their local derby with Retford FC also didn’t disappoint, with this game ending in a 2-2 draw in which United led twice, but couldn’t hold on.
Key Players:
Leading the way in the goals department are Oliver Wilson and Lewis Chambers, who both have four goals to their name in the league.
Behind them is Jacob Carter with three, whilst Ben Ashall has two.
Previous Meeting:
Thackley’s previous meeting with Retford United came back in the 2016/17 season and saw a 2-0 victory for the Dennyboys.
Against the struggling Retford side, two penalties courtesy of Ryan Farrell would seal the win for Thackley, whilst Retford would be relegated at the end of the season.
Ground Description and Directions:
Cannon Park sits to the east of the town and has plenty of interesting features going for it.
These include a capacity of 2,000, 200 of which is covered and 150 of which is seated.
Alongside this, there is also a clubhouse and catering outlet serving all of the usual choices, whilst there is also a club shop for any Thackley supporters wishing to purchase a memento from their visit.
