Albion Sports V Thackley AFC- Match Preview
West Riding County Cup- Tuesday 27th October 2026- Kick Off: 7.45pm
Match Preview by Cayden Sands
Overview:
Thackley begin their West Riding County Cup adventure when they travel to Myra Shay to face Albion Sports.
After their convincing victory over Pickering Town at the weekend, Jamie Price’s side will be hoping to carry this form into a cup competition where they could easily go far.
Furthermore, this game remarkably sees the two teams face each other for the third time this season, with them being familiar opponents at this stage.
The Opposition:
Albion Sports arrive at this fixture hoping to begin a good run of form that they can carry into their league campaign.
The ‘Lions’ have only been able to win a single fixture since their previous meeting with Thackley, this being a 2-1 victory over fellow strugglers Frickley Athletic.
Most notably however, the team were able to take a point from their encounter with title contenders Bottesford Town, managing an exciting 3-3 draw in that game.
Less positive outcomes have included a 4-1 loss to Horbury Town and a 4-0 defeat to Golcar United, whilst they also saw a penalty shoot out defeat against Thornton Cleveleys in the FA Vase.
Key Players:
In a side full of names that will be familiar to suppporters across the league, the top scorers have been Lewis Waddington and Talent Ndlovu, who have five goals each across all competitions.
Behind them are Zackary Sangster and former Dennyboy Hass Gorji, who each have three to their name.
Previous Meeting:
The most recent meeting between the two sides came just over a month ago at Myra Shay, with them playing out an exciting 1-1 draw.
After Waddington gave Albion the advantage in the first half, a solid second half effort from the Dennyboys would see Alfie King score his first goal for the club to save an important point.
Ground Description and Directions:
Myra Shay is one of the league’s newest grounds and is shared by Albion and Division One side Route One Rovers, alongside FA Women’s National League Premier Division North side Halifax FC Women, Myra Shay Women and BD3 United.
The ground has some modern features, including a terraced standing area and a seated stand, both of which offer different views of the pitch.
There is also a clubhouse area serving a popular food offering and various refreshments, including alcoholic beverages for Albion Sports matches.
