Thackley are back at Dennyfield this evening as we welcome Silsden AFC for a Bradford derby.
Both teams come into the game on the back of weekend defeats and will be looking to get back to winning ways as soon as possible. Thackley were defeated by Emley AFC 3-1 in a tight game at Dennyfield as the 2nd placed Pewits took the 3 points to extend the lead from 3rd place Thackley, who are currently on 46 points on 26 games. Kieran Suddards once again was the Thackley goal scorer for the Dennyboys as he made it 3 goals in his last 5 appearances and is in a good run of form. That was Thackley's first defeat in 6 games, ironically since the defeat in the away fixture at Emley AFC on 28 November 2023, and Thackley will be hoping to get back on track this evening.
Further positives from the game included the return to competitive action of winger Aidan Chippendale who was a 66th minute substitute. Chippendale ruptured his ankle ligaments in the reverse fixture against Silsden AFC as he was challenged in the penalty box with the game finely poised at 1-1. The return of Chippendale, who scored 24 goals last season and notched double figures in assists is a timely boost as Thackley look at the business end of the season. Also potentially available this evening from those who were unavailable at the weekend include top goal scorer Tom Greaves and Club Captain, Ben Grech-Brooksbank, as further fire power could potentially be called upon tonight.
At the weekend, Silsden AFC succumbed to a surprise 3-0 away defeat at second bottom Goole AFC, with first half goals from Flanagan and Ward and a second half goal from Grant in the 90th minute securing the points for the Vikings and condemning the Cobbydalers to a 3rd successive defeat, albeit one of those came in the FA Vase Fourth Round when an impressive Cup run came to a halt at the hands of Hallam FC. The result at the weekend left Silsden AFC in 10th position in the league on 34 points, albeit with 3 games in hand on Thackley having only played 23 games.
The Silsden squad has quality throughout though with a number of high profile summer signings still with the Club, and there is no doubt that they will want to get back on track themselves this evening and there can be no better fixture to do it than in a Bradford derby. The current top scorer for Silsden AFC is Kayle Price with 11 league goals and 16 in total including cup competitions, with winger Casey Stewart the next up with 9 league goals and 11 in all competitions. One person who will be missing though is goalkeeper Kyle Trenerry as he has departed The Office Interiors Stadium and signed with divisional and Bradford rivals, Albion Sports.
Last time out Silsden edged the game 2-1 after Stewart had given Silsden the lead just before half time before Greaves equalised just after half time. With the game level, Thackley felt that they should have had a penalty when Chippendale was "fouled" in the Silsden box, in the challenge which left him with ruptured ankle ligaments and a 3 month absence, but no penalty was given and Ellis Hudson scored on 75 minutes to give the Cobbydalers the 3 points on the evening.
The Clubhouse Bar will be open from 6.30pm with the turnstiles opening at 7pm. Entry is £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and u16s Free when accompanied by a paying adult.
