Overview:
Thackley return to action on Saturday with a trip to Handsworth FC in the NCEL Premier Division.
Following the disappointment of exiting the West Riding County Cup at the hands of Horbury Town on Tuesday night, the Dennyboys will be looking to bounce back against a tough opponent that are situated in 8th position in the table.
The Opposition:
Similarly to Thackley, Handsworth have enjoyed a good season so far in the league, picking up 20 points from 13 games as they look to keep themselves in the play-off conversation.
Notable results so far include resounding victories over Beverley Town and Pickering Town by 4-0 and 6-2 scorelines respectively, whilst they have also progressed to the third round of the NCEL League Cup thanks to a penalty shootout victory over Armthorpe Welfare.
The club also managed a run to the first round proper of the FA Vase, defeating the likes of Runcorn Town and Worsborough Bridge Athletic before going out to fellow South Yorkshire club and NCEL Division One high flyers Wombwell Town.
Scoring the goals for the ‘Ambers’ have been Oliver Fearon and Scott Ruthven, with both players having a strong tally of 13 goals each to their name in the league, though Ruthven leads the charts in all competitions, with an extra three goals helping him to this honour.
Previous Meetings:
Last season’s fixtures between the Dennyboys and Handsworth saw the away side pick up the victory on both occasions, with goals from Daniel Claridge and Nathan Woodward guiding Thackley to a 2-1 victory in South Yorkshire.
However, Handsworth would get their revenge at Dennyfield thanks to goals from Leon Howarth and Aaron Maxom before going on to win by the exact same 2-1 scoreline they had lost by earlier in the season.
Ground Description and Directions:
Handsworth’s Express Worktops Stadium holds a capacity of 2,225, with a seated capacity of 225 and enough cover for 415 spectators, leaving plenty of room should the ground’s covered areas be needed!
