Overview:
Thackley return to the road on Saturday with a trip to East Yorkshire to take on Beverley Town in the NCEL Premier Division.
This game will be seen as the perfect chance for the Dennyboys to get back on track following their recent exit in the NCEL League Cup at the hands of Handsworth FC, whilst they will also hope to get back into winning form in the league after their defeat at Frickley Athletic last time out.
The Opposition:
It is save to say that Beverley Town are without doubt one of the most in form sides in the division.
Following a difficult start after their promotion from NCEL Division One, the ‘Beavers’ have been on a run of form since September that has seen them pick up some impressive results and goal tallies, including a 4-1 victory against Goole AFC that was soon followed by a 5-0 demolition of the same opposition, before their recent 5-1 victory over Campion AFC raised plenty of eyebrows across the league.
These results have paid dividends, with the team now sitting just a point outside the play-off places.
Currently leading the goal scoring charts is Cameron Connelly, with him managing to net 13 goals in all competitions so far, with 10 of these coming in the league.
Previous Meeting:
Though Beverley are a newcomer to the NCEL Premier Division, there have been already been two previous competitive meetings between themselves and the Dennyboys, the first of which came in last season’s NCEL League Cup.
Though they came into the game as underdogs against their Premier Division opponents, it would be the visitors that would seal a shock victory on the day thanks to goals from Grant Tait and Benjamin Hinchcliffe to send Thackley out of the competition.
The Dennyboys would get their revenge on the opening day of the 2024/25 season however, with a fantastic brace from Finn Donovan being enough to seal a 2-1 triumph that started Thackley’s campaign in the best way possible.
