It was another cold and wet day at the Meridian Stadium at Dennyfield as Thackley Ladie’s played host to Leeds Hyde Park Firsts who came into the fixture on the back of three straight wins. That confidence showed as the first few minutes of the fixtures played out fairly evenly with end to end action, although the only chance of note being from Sophie Moulden who, in the 4th minute, saw her effort well saved by the opposition goalkeeper. As time passed Thackley grew more and more into the game and this was rewarded in the 29th minute when some neat interplay between Yasmin Senior, Molly Ellis and Rosie Gill ended in a cool finish by Moulden to give Thackley the lead. The rest of the half played out with both sides battling well but when a Moulden cross was met by Ellis in the 39th minute it was nearly 2-0 were it not for the post.
The second half started with the Dennygirls more on the front foot, retaining possession and carving out some good chances, Ellis again hitting the post on the 67th minute from another Moulden cross. The rain continued to hammer down but it didn’t dampen the spirits, Gill capitalising on a defensive error but her cross was put narrowly wide by Moulden. The game seemed destined to finish 1-0 until Thackley’s Beth Davies’s audacious effort was well saved by the Hyde Park keeper only to fall into the path of the everpresent Moulden to double the lead on the 86th minute.
