The league cup saw the Denny girls travelling to Sherburn White Rose Firsts with a place in the quarter finals up for grabs. The first half saw most of the play on Thackley Ladies left flank due to the intense slope on the pitch. Lucy Preston and Sophie Moulden linking well throughout the first half and within the first 5 minutes a corner was swung in by Elle Scott but Chelsea Mortons header was well saved. Preston then saw two of her shots narrowly firing over the bar in the space of 3 minutes. The Denny girls continued to apply pressure and control most of the possession with shots from Scott and Rachael White also saved before 20 minutes had even been played. In the 22nd minute Thackley were awarded a freekick in a promising position but Mouldens fierce strike was just the wrong side of the post. On the half hour mark the deadlock was finally broken when Molly Ellis burst down the right hand side and crossed inch perfect for White to volley home. Within the next minute Ellis nearly made it two when her tantalising turn left the Sherburn defence in her wake but her shot was denied by the goalkeeper. Ellis again on the 39th minute was through on goal, cut back for the waiting Moulden to slot home only for a dubious offside to be called to rule it out much to the confusion of both sets of fans. This only encouraged Thackley though who in the 42nd minute did make it 2-0 when Ellis again was quickest off the mark, dispossessing the defender to cross for White who this time saw her effort saved, but the save fell kindly for Moulden to finish. With ten minutes of added time it was more of the same from Thackley who squandered chances to be further ahead before the half time whistle.
The second half started very similar to the first, Thackley Ladies attacking down both flanks this time and when a Scott through ball turned Ellis into prime Dennis Bergkamp it seemed the writing was on the wall to extend their lead, but it was not to be and Ellis saw her effort yet again saved. Moulden shortly after was denied by the woodwork. Thackley continued to retain possession all half and cut through the defence but could not find themselves another goal even when after some confusion in the 85th minute Sherburn seemed to be down to 9 players.
