Spring seemed to have sprung on the 9th March when league topping Thackley Ladies played host to fourth place Huddersfied Amateurs and with the Dennygirls squad depleted it was always going to be a tough game but Thackley started the brightest and retained possession well. The early signs were looking good as Lucy Preston's effort of the 3rd minute squeaked the wrong side of the post. It was Preston again on the 7th minute who, linking with Beth Davies who won a throw-in deep in the Huddersfield half, the result of which was an inviting Chelsea Morton cross but it again was fired wide this time by Rosie Gill. It took Huddersfield until the 12th minute to retain any possession in the Thackley half but it was quenched expertly by Helen Moreton. Gill and Molly Ellis then linked well in the 15th minute before Ellis cut back to a waiting Davies but Huddersfield were quick to stifle the attack. Chances continued to go awry for the Dennygirls with Ellis and Zoe Roberts firing just wide in the 16th and 20th minute respectively but the determination of this team found a reward in the 26th minute when Ellis’ cross found Gill to slot home and make it 1-0 Thackley. It was nearly 2-0 ten minutes later when a Gill cross and resulting Sophie Moulden head was brilliantly saved by the Huddersfield goalkeeper but it fell kindly to Zoe Roberts with the whole goal to aim at but instead she decided to aim her effort around 10 feet over the bar. As the clock ticked over to 40 minutes Thackley won themselves a corner, which Moulden decided to rifle straight in and make it 2-0 coming into half time.

Thackley Ladies came out in the second half looking much brighter, the first half cobwebs blown off they interlinked better from the get go and when Demi Godson was calm and collected at the back in the 51st minute she looked up and fed Morton through who threaded a no-look pass between the back four of Huddersfield for Ellis to run onto and rifle her shot into the top of the net making it 3-0. With Thackley Ladies in full flow the Huddersfield goalkeeper was in good form to prevent any further goals when Ellis’ shot in the 54th minute was saved and Gill shooting just wide and also when on the 56th minute Roberts decided to try and emulate Mouldens corner heroics earlier but the keeper was wiser and produced a wonderful save with the follow up corner Godson rising above the rest to meet it with her head and just clip the crossbar and over. The Thackley pressure broke the Huddersfield resolve again on the 66th minute when Ellis and Morton interchanged well and played Gill into space who then played through Moulden to slot home 4-0.

It was Moulden again in the 71st minute being a danger to the Huddersfield defense but her powerful shot was saved well and cleared, however it was cleared to Morton on the edge of the box who leathered it into the back of the net 5-0. It was nearly Victory Chinweuba’s first goal for Thackley Ladies in the 82nd minute when Ellis played her through but a great defensive tackle prevented her opening her scoring. It was 6-0 though in the 83rd minute when Moreton again found Ellis in space to get her second of the game. There was time for one more from Thackley ladies, Moulden with the corner and Godson, learning from her earlier missed header, headed home 7-0.
