Thackley Women AFC returned to action looking to bounce back from the previous week’s defeat, and they made a positive start against Huddersfield Town Development.
The hosts settled quickly into the game, showing some excellent first-time touches and putting the Huddersfield defence under pressure during the opening minutes. Thackley moved the ball well across the pitch, with some promising attacking play creating an early opportunity when a dangerous final ball into the area was narrowly missed by Hunt.
Both sides produced some good football as the game settled, with constructive passing and strong defensive work at both ends. Huddersfield threatened when Thackley were caught at the back, playing the ball through the home defence, but the resulting effort sailed over the Thackley crossbar.
Thackley continued to press forward and were rewarded with a corner in the 21st minute. Blythe delivered the ball towards the near post, where Hunt attempted to flick it on with the outside of her boot. The ball struck a Huddersfield defender and fell kindly to Bibby, who made no mistake from close range, confidently finding the back of the net to give Thackley the lead.

The goal gave Thackley added confidence, and they continued to enjoy the greater share of possession. Both teams produced spells of good, constructive football, with attacks being met by equally determined defending. Thackley worked hard to create openings but were unable to add the finishing touch to some of their promising build-up play.
As the game entered its latter stages, Huddersfield began to apply increased pressure. A free kick from the right was delivered deep into the Thackley penalty area, where a defending header sent the ball looping backwards. A Huddersfield player reacted quickest, getting to the ball first and sending a looping header over the Thackley goalkeeper to level the scores.

The visitors finished strongly, creating a number of attacking opportunities in the closing stages, but Thackley stood firm and defended resolutely to secure a deserved draw.
It was a competitive and encouraging performance from Thackley, who showed plenty of positive attacking play, composure in possession and determination throughout the 90 minutes. Despite being unable to hold on for the win, the result reflected an entertaining contest between two sides who worked hard at both ends of the pitch.
