Thackley AFC Women travel to York on Sunday for another important test of their first season in the North East Regional Women's Football League when they face Evolution Ladies.
Following back-to-back promotions, Thackley have made an impressive start to life at regional level. Their opening three league matches produced victories over Cleethorpes Town, Bottesford Town and Knaresborough Town, with 11 goals scored and none conceded. The latest fixture against Altofts ended 1–1, leaving Thackley unbeaten in their opening four league games.
The early results have demonstrated both Thackley's attacking threat and defensive organisation as they adjust to the higher level.
Evolution provides another challenge
Evolution Ladies will provide a different test on their home ground.
The York side arrive in the regional league after winning the North Riding Football League Women's Premier Division last season. Their 2025–26 campaign produced 14 wins, two draws, and just two defeats from 18 league games, with 71 goals scored and 21 conceded.
Their home record was particularly strong, making Sunday's trip to York St John University Sports Park another demanding fixture for Thackley.
Evolution opened their new campaign with a 3–0 defeat at Knaresborough before responding with a 3–2 home victory over Altofts, and a 4-1 win away from home against Sheffield Weds Ladies.
There is little competitive history between the two sides, making Sunday's fixture a new chapter for both clubs.
