Thackley AFC Women return to league action on Sunday 25 October when they travel to face Ilkley Town AFC Women in what promises to be an intriguing local derby in the North East Regional Women’s Football League.
Having made an impressive start to their first season at regional level, Thackley will be looking to continue their progress and maintain the momentum built through a series of strong performances.
Thackley head into the fixture on the back of a convincing 4–0 home victory over Sheffield Wednesday Ladies on 11 October. The result underlined the team's attacking threat and defensive organisation, adding another positive performance to a campaign that has already included wins over Bottesford Town, Knaresborough Town and Evolution Ladies, alongside a draw against Altofts.
The victory over Sheffield Wednesday also demonstrated Thackley's ability to turn promising performances into results, with the squad continuing to adapt to the demands of regional football following successive promotions.
However, Sunday's encounter is unlikely to be straightforward. Ilkley Town will be keen to make home advantage count at Ben Rhydding Sports Club and get back to winning ways after a narrow 3–2 defeat to Evolution Ladies in their most recent league fixture.
Ilkley's results this season suggest they can be dangerous going forward, but they have also experienced some high-scoring encounters. Thackley will therefore need to remain disciplined defensively while looking to exploit opportunities in attack.
For Thackley manager Yasmin Senior, the challenge will be to ensure her side maintain the intensity, teamwork and confidence that have characterised their recent performances. With the squad blending established players and new additions, consistency will be important as the season develops.
